My work experience

Day 4
This was my last day in the company. I worked with Paul for a lot of it and with their prototype model. We created a number of files and used the programme which I wrote to copy them over onto a usb so that they were readable. It took quite a while and gave me a massive headache! I had to take the whole machine apart and hook it up to a computer so that I could work on it. For lunch I went out for lunch with the lab engineers which was fun. They were just out of college so I asked them lots of questions about their courses and if they enjoyed it or not. I am now considering doing something in chemical engineering or sound engineering. When I got back to the office I finished off the work and went home at around 6 after thanking everyone which I had worked with for their time. My work experience was a great one and has opened my eyes up to lots of new possible jobs which I would never even have considered before.
Day 3
Today I got to go into the labs! It was great fun seeing all the high-tech gear that they have in there. They have a number of different test rooms with robotic dummies which simulate human movement so they can use their devices on them. They also had rooms for testing the device's sensitivity and their ability to work while different level frequency waves were being shot at them. They also had one large metal room with blue foam spikes on the floor, ceiling and walls which they did a number of tests on the devices in. I got to see a few experiments being run and had a lot of fun. The lab engineers were all friendly and helpful when I asked questions about what they do. Maybe studying engineering wouldn't be such a bad idea?
Day 2
Today I got the bus in like yesterday and started my work at 10 am. I was ready to get down to business and learn python. Paul wanted me to learn it so that I could work with him and write a programme to copy files from their prototype and move them onto a usb for inspection. It all seemed so complicated because I only had a very very basic knowledge in programming. I spent a large part of the day watching tutorials and figuring out how it all worked. For lunch I ate in their kitchen and had a roll which I made earlier. Then I worked with Ciara and took photos of everyone in the office for their email. Before I knew it the day was over and it was 5:30 and time for me to head home. Tomorrow Ciara told me that she would get to into the labs to work with the engineers in their!
Day 1
Today was a slightly nerve wrecking day. I didn't know anyone in the company and I was nervous about meeting all the new people and finding out who I would be working with. I took the 11 in to the offices which were located in UCD in the morning. I met my supervisor for the week Ciara Leong. She was a very friendly woman and made sure that I knew what I was doing for the whole week. Then another guy named Paul ran through what they do in the company and how everything works. It was a bit complicated at first but I eventually understood what he was talking about. He then gave me a task for the week which he wrote down on a piece if paper. It read 'learn python'.
Where I Was Working
Hi I'm Lorcan and I was working in RESMED which is a biomedical company. This company deal mainly with sleep apnea and try to create ways to monitor and cure people's sleeping problems. I was woking with a team of test engineers and I had too learn a lot of new skills on my work experience. I myself was dealing with a new prototype device for sleep monitoring. However I am not able to give any information on the device (them made me sign a confidentiality agreement!). In this blog I will give a diary entry about each day that I was working in my company.
